Been wanting to make myself a desk for ages and decided I was after something with a 50s or 60s feel. Opted for elm like a lot of older Ercol stuff that I like, rather than the darker, heavier teak that was used for a lot of furniture then.
Used the Leigh jig to cut dovetails - through on the drawer cabinet carcasses and half-blinds on the drawers themselves. Drawer sides are sycamore, and run on soft closing undermount runners. Drawers lined with faux suede microfibre.
It wouldn't be the same piece without the fantastic hairpin legs from Ian Mclean at www.hairpinlegs.com. Recessed drawer pulls created with a specialist router cutter.
Integrated brush strips for cable management (I have a lot!) - there is also a shelf and a row of cable clips beneath, so it looks fairly neat even when it's fully loaded!
